Running in the Box - Parallel arm swing

Correct:

  • A consistent theme with efficient running, is to keep moving towards the finish
  • A parallel armswing reduces the rotational loads on the spine
  • Sprinters describe running in the Box - Where all moving components move parallel to an imaginary box

Wrong:

  • Trunk is slighty forward flexed
  • Arm swing is across the midline
  • Kinetic energy is not all moving in the desired direction of travel

What to watch for:

Start by checking the trunk on pelvis relationship. This should be aligned as in sway correction

Set the shoulders and achieve a "fast and easy" arm swing

Ensure the the head stays over the trunk and is not pushed down or forwards.
